"Welcome......I listen and I care."
Background
Gavin lives in Port Washington where he has been a full-time Broker for over 20 years. He brings decades of experience to real estate, having worked in 11 different countries over a 30 year period.
He frequently suffered at the hands of less than competent real estate agents during many of his earlier re-locations.
However he soon learned that your choice of agent is the most important first step. This
remains true whether you are buying your first house or selling a much loved home, with all the memories that it holds.
Gavin is the consummate professional and when you work with him and his team, he will make the process as painless as possible.
He will listen to what you want and take great care to meet and exceed your expectations. He will see the process through from start to finish and will be there for you every step of the way.
Personal Background.
Born in England, I grew up in Devon and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the UK’s equivalent of West Point.
Joining my Regiment, the 14th/20th Kings Hussars, in Libya [King Idris was still the Ruler] I was fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout the country; deep into the desert, through old WW11 battlefields, along the coast dotted with remarkably beautiful and, as yet, unspoiled Roman and Greek remains. The next eight years were a most interesting time, Cyprus, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, Northern Ireland, three expeditions to Ethiopia, the last of which culminated in our being the first to “conquer†the Blue Nile. Then, finally two years attached to the Sultan’s Armed Forces in Oman as a Military advisor. Sultan Qaboos had just deposed his father Said Bin Taimur as Ruler of Muscat and Oman. Qaboos faced the huge task of bringing his country into the 20th century, whilst at the same time battling a Communist backed insurgency that was trying to take over the Gulf States and their oil wealth. It was a fascinating time to be there. I retired from HM armed forces as a Captain and joined a firm of Stockbrokers on The London Stock Exchange. This was bad timing on my part, since the market would crash two years later and I would be made redundant.
I was then recruited by Barclays Bank International, into their management development program, the last year of which I spent in New York. All too soon someone in our Staff Department remembered that I spoke Arabic and I found myself in Sharjah [an Emirate within the United Arab Emirates], from there to Ras Al Khaimah, [also part of the UAE] then to Dubai [hopefully no explanation needed here], and back to Sharjah. A change of scenery and 70 degrees cooler, had me attached to Barclays Bank of Canada in December, where I managed their credit department for three years, before moving to Mexico as the Bank’s Representative for Mexico and Central America. Arriving there after a major earthquake had just devastated parts of the city, rendered the bank’s house uninhabitable and in the middle of the Latin American debt crisis was a challenging experience. However three years spent there, travelling all over the country and throughout Central America, left me with a great respect for the people; it saddens me greatly that the current drug problems have made life so dangerous in many areas for citizens and foreigners alike.
As the debt crisis in Latin America abated, I returned to the USA and married a lovely New Yorker. At that time I was attached to BZW [Barclays De Zoete Wedd] as Director of project finance for Latin America, based in Miami, living on Key Biscayne. I also continued with international trade finance, which took me on occasion to Russia and parts of the former Soviet Union such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. This, together with travel to Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and visits to my head offices in New York and London, kept me very busy, flying over 100,000 miles a year. So when I was told that my division was to be closed, as the bank reduced exposure to Latin America, I had mixed feelings, particularly when asked to return to London. Instead, I decided to take early retirement and joined my wife in New York; we had had a commuting marriage for the previous 6 years!
And so to today, happily living in this wonderful town of Port Washington with my wife and two dogs and working seven days a week as an Associate Broker.
